A warm welcome to Romsey Medical Practice to Dr Lee-Robichaud, who has been a medical doctor for 13 years.

As standard with all new people joining Romsey Medical Practice, we’ve put them through the world’s longest Q&A – so you (our patients) can get to know them a little better.

How long have you been a doctor?

I was a PhD first then became a medical 13 years ago.

Where did you train?

Sheffield Medical School

Where have you worked?

Winchester, Lymington and Southampton General hospitals. After completing my GP training at the old Nightingale Surgery in Romsey, I spent a few months as a locum in various Hampshire GP practices before becoming a partner in 2014.

What led you to become the current doctor that you are?

My journey into General Practitioner started with my fascination in biological sciences.  After graduating in Biochemistry with Chemistry at Southampton,  I completed a PhD in steroid hormone biosynthesis which led to postdoctoral research.  I then left Southampton to take up a lectureship in Biochemistry at Sheffield University.  After 4 years of lecturing, I transitioned into medicine.

What attracted you to your specialty?

During my surgical and medical hospital rotations, I toyed with the idea of specialising in cardiology and anaesthetics.  However, between these hospital rotations, it was my good fortune to have enjoyed a four month attachment at an inspiring GP practice.  I realised that family practice was for me. Only as a GP do you get to see the full spectrum of medical conditions and employ the wide set of skills gained over years of training. Furthermore, as a GP you are more able to have an holistic approach to treating patients, as opposed to just just treating the particular illness.

What do you like most about practicing medicine and why?

The reward of being able to diagnose, treat and manage your patient’s medical problem with the aim of improving their quality of life.

What aspects of practicing medicine have you found to be most challenging and why?

Being the bearer of bad news and end of life care, especially with patients with whom you have had the privilege to have a lengthy doctor-patient relationship

What is your philosophy with medicine and treating patients?

Avoid over medicating and ensure that patients are involved in the decision making process for their healthcare.

What challenges do you feel doctors and fellow healthcare professionals are facing today?

It has to be working through this COVID pandemic, with all the restrictions, almost weekly changing government directives, staff absences etc in order to try and maintain patient access to healthcare.

What has attracted you to working with Dr Chris and Nurse Emily and becoming involved with the Romsey Medical Practice?

The whole team at RMP have been very welcoming and professional – Chris and Emily especially so.  I am totally on board with their vision to create a patient-centred practice, which will offer timely access to GP and other allied services, with plenty of time to consult patients.  They have constructed a beautiful, clean, clinical environment in which to welcome, consult and treat patients.  What has attracted me the most, has been the genuine, caring attitude that Chris and Emily have, together with their uncompromising belief in offering high professional standards.

What is one goal you would like to accomplish in the next year (personal or professional, or both)?

To become a good golfer! I’ve just started lessons.

Where do you see yourself in 5 and 10 years (personally or professionally, or both)?

Drinking gorgeous Italian wine whilst gazing out over a stunning Tuscan landscape.

As you are married to Heather (Romsey Medical Practice Dermatologist), we’d love to know, how did you meet each other?

Our eyes met across the Biology lab!

How long have you been married?

Long enough to do as I’m told

What’s your favourite thing(s) to do on your days off?

Walking with our Westies, eating out, seeing friends.

Where are your favourite holiday destinations/type of holidays?

Somewhere warm enough to be outdoors being active, dining al fresco and just relaxing.

What passions do you have?

A passion for life with my wife and westies
